A few thoughts. 1) After Watergate and the "missing six minutes of tape" a law was passed making EVERYTHING that goes on in The White House (recordings, documents, notes, doodles, phone calls) the property of The United States. They can ONLY go to the National Archives. They are NOT Trump's. 2)After announcing the FBI investigation of H.Clinton a month before the 2016 election, all the ongoing investigations of her right until Trump left office, the investigation of Hunter Biden, etc, it seems rather hypocritical for the GOPee to be whining about this investigation being "political." 3) The DOJ bent over backwards to let Trump return the stolen documents. He turned over some of the boxes months ago. Then some more recently. Then was subpoenaed to turn over the rest and didn't. His lawyers told the DOJ there were none still in Trump's possession. But now we know there were because the LEGAL search warrant recovered more of them from Trump's resort.
